CREASION and Coca-Cola to provide relief to 3,200 waste workers

KATHMANDU, May 24:  CREASION and Coca-Cola in Nepal have announced a joint initiative named Waste Worker Emergency Relief Project (WWERP) in a bid to provide awareness, safety gears and relief materials to waste workers and their families amid the global pandemic.

Issuing a press statement, the companies said that the project is part of Coca-Cola’s initial pledge of Rs 80 million for the fight against COVID-19.

The first phase of the project commenced on May 15 in a safety awareness and distribution event of relief materials to 150 waste workers which was held at Women for Human Rights in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.

So far,   four relief programs have been conducted successfully which has directly benefited 460 waste workers.

Furthermore, the companies are scheduled to provide Protective Suits and Safety gears to 100 frontline waste workers on May 25 which will be facilitated by  Bidya Sundar Shakya, mayor of Kathmandu, the statement further reads.

The WWERP project is a joint collaboration with Women for Human Rights, Doko recycler, Blue Waste to Value, Nepsemyak and Himalayan Climate Initiative (HCI).

This initiative aims to reach out to 3,200 waste workers and their families ensuring their safety and livelihoods in the current crisis situation while over 2,500 waste workers will be directly benefited.

The project will be further carried out in different municipalities of Kathmandu, Kiritipur, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Chitwan, Lahan, Saptari and Siraha.
