KATHMANDU, May 1: Nepal Police has sent information to the Parliament Secretariat informing the latter that CPN-UML law maker Lakshmi Mahato Koiri has been absconding.

The police wrote a letter to parliament, seeking the latter’s help in arresting MP Koiri for the second time. Lawmaker Koiri is accused of murder and he is currently absconding, according to Nepal Police.

Earlier, the police headquarters sent a letter to the General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat on December 22, 2022, stating that Koiri was absconding after committing a murder.

After the statement of the Parliament Secretariat and Speaker Devraj Ghimire that ‘the police’s request was not as per the House of Representatives Rules 2079 and so it could not be accepted’ became public, Nepal Police has again informed parliament in writing, along with the information that lawmaker Koiri was still absconding. 

When the lawmakers drew the Speaker’s attention toward this matter, Speaker Devraj Ghimire said that no agency had formally mentioned that any parliamentarian was absconding after the House of Representatives Rules, 2079 were implemented.
