CPN ML splits prior to PM voting

KATHMANDU, Aug 6: In a fresh twist in Nepali politics, CPN ML led by CP Mainali which commands eight seats in the parliament, split over the row on supporting Unified CPN (Maoist) led government on Friday.



Party members who are in favor of a Maoist-led government formed a new party named CPN ML (Socialist) under the leadership of Jagat Bahadur Bogati. [break]



According to Bogati, four of the total eight lawmakers have joined the new party.



The four lawmakers who defected CPN ML are Yadu Bansha Jha, Tilak Bahadur Thapa Magar, Ganesh Prasad Chaudhary and Sarada Nepali. They said that they would vote for Maoist candidate Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the fourth round of PM voting on Friday.
