CPN Maoist's banda affects life across the country

KATHMANDU, July 24: Normal life across the country including Kathmandu Valley has been affected due to the general strike called by Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist on Friday.

Markets, schools, colleges, business enterprises remained closed due to the general strike.

A few motorcycles, private vehicles and emergency means of vehicles including ambulances, vehicles belonging to the Press and diplomatic missions were plying on the road.



There have been no incidents of arson, vandalism and clashes reported so far.

However, police arrested some CPN Maoist cadres from different places of the Kathmandu Valley for allegedly threatening people not to open their shops.

Likewise, ten CPN Maoist cadres were arrested in Baglung. According to DSP Prem Bahadur Basnet, they were arrest from Halan Chwok of Baglung Bazaar on the charge of coercing people for closing market places.

Similarly, seven CPN Maoist cadres were arrested in Dolakha district for allegedly coercing local businessmen to shut their shops down.


Chand-led Maoist organized today's banda protesting the India-China bilateral agreement over Lipu Lekh--a piece of land in Nepal bordering the two neighboring countries. The agreement was reached, while keeping Nepal in the dark, during India PM Narendra Modi's visit to China in May 2015.
