CPN-Maoist likely to form jumbo CC

KATHMANDU, April 13: Four months after the party´s general convention, the CPN-Maoist is all set to give its central committee (CC) a jumbo shape, professedly to ensure representation of all groups within the party.



The central committee meeting called for Saturday will likely nominate additional members to a form a 99-150 member body. Chiefs and other top leaders of the sister wings would be nominated as CC members.[break]



The party´s general convention had formed a 43-memebr CC, mandating it to nominate additional eight members. However, the CC meeting held later only announced field visit programs of instead of giving the body a full shape.



“We are holding discussions on various aspects. But it is very much likely that the CC would be expanded to a 150-member body to ensure inclusion of all sides,” said CC member Om Prakash Pun. According to him, the CC is discussing whether to form a full CC or also form an alternative CC.



Earlier, the second CC meeting was postponed without giving the body a full shape. Leader had argued that they needed more time for homework. The leaders had then planned to form a 99-member CC with 75 full CC members.



Each state committee has recommended around 11 names for the post of new CC members. The party has 14 state committees.



Maoist has set three-point criteria for nomination of new CC members - party´s necessity, and seniority and capacity of candidates.
