“As per the schedule the staff are supposed to collect election materials by Wednesday. However, they have been stranded in their respective villages due to the strike,” said Chief Returning Officer Kamal Bhattarai of Ilam district.
With three constituencies, as many as 1,666 election staffers are set to be deputed for 126 polling stations in Ilam district.
“I have not been able to get a vehicle to the district headquarters to collect election materials,” said Devendra Rai of Chimfula VDC. Rai has has been deputed for the polling station based in Banjho VDC.
Since it is not possible to bring all the staffs on security escort, they have to walk to the district headquarters on foot, said CDO Baburam Khatiwada.
Of the 48 VDCs, Banjho, Sakfara, Chulachuli, Mahamai, Lumde, Ibhang, Jirmale are the most inaccessible VDCs in the district.
