CPN (Maoist Centre) finalizes five candidates for NA elections

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) has finalized the name of party candidates for the upcoming election of National Assembly (NA) members.  Earlier, a Central Committee meeting of the party held on Monday handed the responsibility of finalizing the name list of candidates to party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal. 

According to the party Chair’s Secretariat, Urmila Aryal (Province 2), Suresh Ale Magar from other group and Bharat Sunar from Dalit quota (Gandaki), Nar Bahadur Bista from persons with disabilities (Karnali Province), and Jagat Parki from the Dalit quota (Sudurpaschim) have been picked up as party candidates for the Upper House elections taking place on January 26.

The election is being held for the posts turning vacant in the first week of March with the termination of the term of a section of members. 

The Election Commission has scheduled the candidacy nomination program for the elections of 19 members today while one member will be nominated by the President.

The ruling parties are preparing to present a common candidate and file the nominations collectively. A meeting of the coalition partners on Monday morning had agreed to go for the elections on a seat-sharing basis.
