"We stayed till 11 o'clock on Monday night to convince the Chairman regarding the party’s name," he said, "Our efforts were successful." The chairman is ready to name the unified party as the CPN (Socialist).

While Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of CPN (Maoist Center) is not ready to remove the term ‘CPN’ from the unified party's name, Bhattarai has consistently sought for its removal. Negotiations for party unity have been led by Ganga Narayan Shrestha on behalf of Nepal Samajwadi Party and Krishna Bahadur Mahara on behalf of CPN (Maoist Center).

An agreement to unify the parties was reached before the House of Representatives elections of 2022. The Nepal Samajwadi Party's Central Committee is currently in the process of finalizing the unification.
