COVID-19 cases confirmed in all but Siraha district in Province-2

DHANUSHA, May 13: COVID-19 infection was confirmed in 62 people on a single day in Province-2 on Tuesday, including 57 in Parsa, two each in Mahottari and Dhanusha, and one in Bara district. With this, the total number of infected people in the Province has reached 94.

The highest number of cases are in Parsa. Coronavirus infection has been found in 82 people including three Indians in Parsa district.

Similarly, three persons each have been infected in Bara and Rautahat districts, two persons each in Mahottari and Dhanusha districts, and one person each in Sarlahi and Saptari districts in the Province, the Province-2 Health Directorate Janakpurdham stated.

Out of the eight districts, coronavirus case has not been found only in Siraha district so far.

Nasal swab samples were collected from 211 people in the State on Tuesday alone for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests under the COVID-19 Prevention and Control Campaign. Directorate's senior health officer Bijaya Kumar Jha said swab samples have been collected from 3,936 people in the Province as of Tuesday.

The collection of swab samples has been intensified in the Parsa district after the number of infected cases has increased there. Jha said collection of the swab is being carried out on a campaign basis in Saptari and Siraha districts of the Province sharing a border with Udayapur district of Province-1 which has reported many coronavirus infection cases.

Swab collection is also going ahead in other districts as well.

Out of the 3,936 swab samples collected in the State so far, results of 2,750 are available with 94 samples testing positive while 2,656 testings negative to the coronavirus. According to Jha, results of 1,186 samples would be available by the evening today.

A shortage of isolation beds is seen at hospitals in the State following the surge in the number of cases of late. One thousand 468 people are kept in 179 quarantine facilities while 4,522 people are kept in home quarantine under the direct supervision of health workers throughout the State.
