KATHMANDU, July 2: Court staffers across the country are on strike today. According to the call of all the four national level staff organizations under the Supreme Court, the court staffers have stopped their work until 1:30 PM today.

On June 28, the staffers of the District Court Lalitpur started protesting against the assault of non-gazetted first class officer Premika Tamang, by advocate Amir Lamichhane. According to employees of the District Court, Lalitpur, when Lamichhane demanded the original legal documents, Tamang told him that it would not be possible to give him the original documents and that he could take xerox copies of those documents, Lamichhane allegedly used offensive language to Tamang stating “What can you do? Go ahead and do whatever you can."

In protest against the attack on Premika Tamang, the employees of the Lalitpur District Court have gone on strike since Friday. They have decided to announce a pen-down from Friday due to threats and pressure from legal professionals.

The court employees have demanded that Lamichhane, who assaulted Tamang, be punished according to the law. Tamang filed a petition against advocate Lamichhane in District Court Lalitpur on June 28 demanding action for contempt of court.
