KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Cooperative victim Aamodh Chaturvedi has been found hanged to death in Attarkhel, Gokarneshwor Municipality-8.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raju Pandey of the Police Circle Boudha said that Chaturvedi, who is a permanent resident of Biratnagar, Morang was found hanging in a rented room located in Attarkhel on Saturday night.
Former NAC Chief Chaturvedi commits suicide
Chaturvedi had deposited an amount in Attarkhel-based Kanti Bhairav Savings and Credit Cooperative Pvt Ltd. Police suspect that he may have committed suicide due to not receiving his savings back. The body of the deceased has been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for postmortem. DSP Pandey said that an investigation regarding Chaturvedi's death is underway.
Chaturvedi was an employee at Nepal Medical College located in Attarkhel, Gokarneshwor-8. It is reported that he used to regularly deposit his money in the Kanti Bhairav Cooperative. Rajesh Kumar Bista, a member of Kanti Bhairav Savings and Credit Victim Struggle Committee, said that Chaturvedi had been making frequent visits to the cooperative to collect the deposit amount for nearly two years but in vain.
Bista said, "He had been visiting the cooperative to withdraw his savings for treatment of his broken legs. Chaturvedi was under stress because he could not afford treatment due to lack of money. Chaturvedi had saved Rs 2.5 million in the cooperative, and he had not received the money back. Therefore, Chaturvedi used to visit the cooperative frequently claiming that he was unable to treat himself, his ill wife and daughter.”
