KATHMANDU, May 11: The consumer price index increased further in the past one month during mid-March and mid-April, due to an increase in non-food items along with prices of a few food and beverage products.


The ‘Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation Report of Nepal’ unveiled by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) shows that the year-on-year inflation rose to 7.76 percent in mid-April, compared to 7.44 percent in mid-March.

According to the NRB report, the food and beverage inflation increased to 6.93 percent, up from 5.64 percent in the previous month. The price index of spices also rose from 10.88 percent to 14.67 percent. Cereal grains and their products however declined to 13.72 percent from 14.35 percent.


Last month, the price index of the health sub-category increased 10.39 percent, housing and utilities 9.54 percent, recreation and culture 8.81 percent, furnishing and household equipment 8.74 percent and education 8.67 percent.


Region-wise, consumer price inflation in the Kathmandu Valley was recorded the highest at 8.57 percent. Similarly, the price inflation was recorded at 7.68 percent in Terai, 7.47 percent in Mountain and 7.01 percent in the hill areas.
