KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The consumer price inflation was recorded at 5.65 percent as of mid-January as compared to 3.56 percent of the same period last year.
Surging prices of services along with the number of food items took the consumer price index on the upward graph, according to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB)’s report on Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation. In the review month, service inflation stood at 6.23 percent and that of food and beverage stood at 4.92 percent.

Last month, prices of ghee and oil surged by 21.22 percent and that of transportation and pulses and legumes surged by 14.07 percent and 9.22 percent, respectively. Inflation in Terai region was recorded the highest at 6.15 percent followed by hilly region (5.34 percent), Kathmandu Valley (5.28 percent) and mountain region (5.22 percent).
