KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The construction of the 53.5 MW Upper Myagdi-1 Hydropower Project’s dam has begun.
The promoter company, Myagdi Hydropower Limited, has begun construction of a 15-meter high and 40-meter long dam in Khamla, Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-4, Myagdi. Rural Municipality Chairman Prem Prasad Pun laid the foundation stone of the dam on Wednesday, according to the state-owned RSS.

The company stated that the construction of the dam has been initiated to channel the water of the Myagdi River into the tunnel.
Project Chief Jyoti Kumar KC said that the construction of the dam was started after completing the land management work.
"Civil contractor Luna Builders and Contractors has already prepared the dam construction site by leveling the hill," he said, "We have accelerated the construction of the dam, tunnel and power house with the aim of generating electricity within the deadline of March 5, 2027."
The project, which is estimated to cost Rs 11.23 billion, has made 16.5 percent physical progress so far.
