Construction of new track to Mt. Makalu begins

SANKHUWASABHA, Jan. 28: The works for opening a track to Mt. Makalu, the fifth highest peak in the world, has begun.



The task of digging a new route to the peak has been initiated with the financial assistance of Sankhuwasabha Tourism Development Board and Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), it is learnt. [break]



The route starting from Hatiya VDC-4 goes through the bank of Barun River, according to project chief Man Bahadur Limbu.



Many portions of the project are expected to be completed within this Nepali year, 2069 BS. Journey of tourists visiting the peak Makalu will be easier and tourist arrival is expected to go up after the construction of the new route, he said.
