KHOTANG, Nov 11: The construction of a bridge over Tawa River which connects Sakela Rural Municipality and Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality has been delayed due to dillydallying by the construction company.
The government had signed the agreement for the construction of the bridge with National Mahabir Siddhisai JV on May 4, 2018. As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU), the construction should have been completed within 18 months from the date of signing the agreement.

Despite extending the deadline for two months, the construction company hasn't expedited the work. Meanwhile, the company has said that it has already supplied necessary construction materials to the site for the construction of the bridge. According to Bhupendra Rai, chairperson of Diprung Rural Municipality, the bridge is directly linked with the development of the entire district. The company was awarded the contract worth Rs 45.1 million. The construction company has already received an advance of Rs four million for the construction of the bridge, which falls along the Diktel-Khotang Bazzar road section. As there was no bridge, the river had swept away a bus (BA 2 Kha 4896) in Putalibazar last year.
Meanwhile, the design of the bridge has been changed for the second time. Initially, the design was prepared to construct a 25-meter long bridge. After a flood in the river last year, the design was changed, and the bridge was supposed to be 50 meters long.
