Construction for 218MW hydel projects begins

PARBAT, Sept 23: Four different hydro-electricity projects have been started in Dhaulagiri zone.



The projects to be constructed in Parbat, Mygdi and Mustang districts will produce 218.8 Megawatt power within the next five years.[break]



Construction of the Tallo Modikhola project with the capacity of generating 10 Megawatt electricity and the Madhya Modikhola (14.8 Megawatt) has started in the Modikhola River in Parbat district.



Similarly, Kaligandaki Gorge project (168 Megawatt) has also started the construction works in Myagdi and Mustang districts and construction works on the 30 Megawatt-capacity project is underway at Rahughat of Mygdi.



Among the projects, around 40 percent construction works of Tallomodi has already completed. The other three projects have recently started the construction works acquiring the necessary land for the construction.



The under-construction Kaligandaki Gorge hydro-power project is estimated to be completed within next five years. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 25 billion.



According to Kumar Pandey, the director of the contractor company, the project has acquired 300 ropanis of land from Lete to Kunjo of Mustang and Narchyang and Dana VDCs of Mygdi for the dam construction.
