KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that there is a possibility of amending the constitution.

Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Friday, Deuba, also a former Prime Minister of Nepal, said that certain aspects need to be amended and that there is a possibility of amending the constitution when necessary.

“If everyone agrees, certain aspects of this constitution can be amended,” he said, “However, if we speak frankly, many important and good things have already been accomplished. This constitution is inclusive.”

President Deuba made it clear that amendments will only be made if everyone deems it necessary. He emphasized that since there are people who cannot win through elections, proportional representation should be further studied and potentially amended to ensure their inclusivity.

He said that even if fundamental aspects of the constitution can not be amended, other areas can still be improved through amendments. He mentioned that the deficiencies and weaknesses in the constitution will be corrected, and democracy and human rights are the top priorities. Deuba emphasized the need to establish a more progressive democratic society compared to other countries.
