KATHMANDU, May 8: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has formally decided to fail Prime Minister Oli’s attempt to secure a vote of confidence during a special session of parliament on May 10.

A parliamentary party meeting of NC held on Saturday afternoon decided to vote against PM Oli and thwart the latter’s attempt to garner a majority of votes in the lower house of parliament and remain intact as the prime minister, according to Bal Krishna Khand, the party’s chief whip.

“President Deuba also briefed the lawmakers on the formation of an alternative government as PM Oli is sure to lose parliament’s confidence on May 10,” Khand added.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari summoned a special session of the 275-member House of Representatives (HoR) for Monday as PM Oli ‘considered it necessary to seek the House’s confidence as per Article 93 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal.’
