KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Central committee member of main opposition Nepali Congress Mohan Basnet has claimed that his party must get the post of speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Speaking at a program in the capital on Thursday, Basnet who is also the former minister said that Congress rightly deserves the post of speaker as there is a constitutional provision of electing speaker and deputy speakers from different parties.
The post of speaker has remained vacant after Krishna Bahadur Mahara stepped down from his post on October 1 following allegations of sexually harassing a female staff at Parliamentary Secretariat.
On a different note, he stressed the need for implementing agreements reached between Nepal and China during the recent state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal.
