Conflict-hit children deprived of full scholarship

RUKUM, Aug 6: Children who lost both their parents during the armed conflict have been denied full scholarships. They have been receiving only half the scholarship amount as the government has not been providing the full amount citing lack of funds.



The government had announced to provide these children full scholarships. [break]



A total of 377 children who lost their parents during the conflict are facing the problem.



District Education Officer Baburam Dhungana said the Education Ministry has not been sending sufficient funds to provide full scholarships to these children.



In Rukum, there are 186 such children in the primary level, 99 in the lower secondary level, 67 in the secondary level and 25 in the higher secondary level.



A total of 1,300 children were orphaned by the conflict in the district, according to Bagh Singh Oli, an officer at the District Children´s Welfare Committee.
