KATHMANDU, Nov 28:  A complaint has been filed at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) that the educational certificates of some senior officers of the Nepali Army are fake.

On November 27, a complaint was lodged at the CIAA demanding an investigation into the officer Nirmal Kumar Thapa, who is in the process of being promoted to Lieutenant General and is currently working as a force commander.

Earlier, Tara Dhwaj Pandey, who had been recommended for promotion to Lieutenant General, was forced to resign after there was discrepancy in his date of birth.

An application has been submitted to the CIAA against Thapa, stating that the educational certificate of Proficiency Certificate level (IA) was faked by former military officers. It is mentioned in the complaint that he joined the Nepali Army in 2043 BS by bringing a fake certificate from Gorakhpur High School in India and is currently working in Syria.

With the acceptance of the resignation of Pandey, who was recommended for promotion as the future Chief of Army Staff, and Lieutenant General Ashok Kumar Sigdel, who is the second most preferred candidate, has been recommended for promotion. While the military headquarters said that a complaint could be filed against him within a week, it was demanded to check Thapa's educational certificate.
