SANKHUWASABHA, Oct 30: The distribution of compensation funds has begun for individuals whose lands had been acquired by the 669-megawatt Lower Arun Hydropower Project currently under construction.
The District Administration Office, Sankhuwasabha, has initiated the compensation process for individuals whose land has been acquired for the project. Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan mani Ghimire said that compensation amounts range from Rs 500,000 to Rs 3.4 million based on evaluations.
Satluj Company to construct Lower Arun hydropower project
A total of 338 households will be directly impacted during the construction of the Lower Arun Hydropower Project, with 16 homes facing complete displacement. Approximately 65.96 hectares of private land will be acquired for the project. The contractor, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) has said that it will distribute around Rs 1.4 billion in compensation to the affected locals.
RC Suleria, Deputy General Manager of SJVN said that water will be brought to Khandbari Municipality-2, Chewabesi through a 17.4 km tunnel, following the construction of the 900-megawatt Arun III hydroelectric power plant currently under construction in Makalu Rural Municipality.
The SJVN is also developing the 900 MW Arun III hydroelectric project and has prepared to follow a similar construction model for the Lower Arun Hydropower Project.
