Committee formed to probe air crash in Jomsom

KATHMANDU, May 16: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has formed a committee to investigate into the crash of Nepal Airlines Corporation´s aircraft en route to Jomsom from Pokhara.



According to Ministry´s Spokesperson Mohan Krishna Sapkota, the probe committee comprises senior pilot of Tara Air Prabhakar Ghimire, senior aeronautical engineer Meghendra Kumar Shrestha and joint-secretary at the Ministry Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane. [break]



The accident took place when the 9N-ABO DHC 6 twin otter aircraft skidded off the runway in course of landing at Jomsom Airport. Some 22 passengers including eight Japanese, 10 Nepalis, a child and three crew members were on board.



Five out of seven injured in the incident were rushed to Pokhara through a chopper of Air Dynasty.



Two crew members, who were undergoing treatment in Pokhara Hospital, have been airlifted to Trivhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu for further treatment, said Spokesperson Sapkota.



Five passengers with minor injury returned home after treatment in Jomsom, he added.



A directive has been made to submit the fact-finding report within two months. The Nepal government has formed the committee in line with Non-Military Air Service Rules-2024 BS.
