KATHMANDU, Dec 28: As disgruntled riders staged a protest demanding the commission rate be reduced to eight percent, Pathao Nepal has clarified that it has been taking 20 percent of fare as commission from passengers as per the international standard.

A group of disgruntled riders, who have put forth an 11-point demand, vandalized the Nepal office of Pathao earlier today, after the company allegedly did not heed their demands.

Responding to the demand about commission presented by riders, Pathao Nepal said that the company has been taking 20 percent of fare as commission from passengers as per the international standard.

Issuing a statement, the company said that international ride sharing companies such as Lyft, Gojek, Ola, and Grab have set their commission rates at 20 percent, while Uber has set a commission rate of 25 percent.

“Ride sharing services around the world have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the company said.
