KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Inspector General of Armed Police Force, Shailendra Khanal has said that the peace process can be made strong and successful only with the collective efforts and spirit of all of us.
The APF Chief Khanal made the remarks while addressing the International Peacebuilding Workshop on "Safety and Security of UN Peacekeepers" organized by China's allied Ministry of Public Security on September 8-9 at the request of the United Nations. He was invited as a keynote speaker in the virtual event.

“Adequate awareness and capacity building are keys to the safety of the peacekeepers to be safe from ambushes and mines and such awareness should be provided in the course of pre-mobilization training for peacekeepers as well,” said Inspector General Khanal. He also stressed on the need to conduct mission-oriented training for the security personnel to be deployed as formed police units and individual police officers in order to effectively fulfill the mandates of the peace mission.
Khanal said that effective leadership, collective spirit and cooperation, discipline, honesty and proper planning are important elements for the safety of security personnel deployed in peacekeeping missions and that such conferences would be vital for the UN member states to keep their citizens safe.
The workshop was attended by Executive Vice Minister of China Wang Xiaohong, UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lakwa, UN Police Adviser Luis Carilho and other senior officials from France, Germany, Argentina, Bangladesh and Pakistan. A total of six senior security officials including Inspector General Khanal were the keynote speakers at the inaugural session of the event.
