KATHMANDU, Sept 6: A discussion was held between the Confederation of Nepalese Industry (CNI) and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song. The CNI officials led by their President Rajesh Kumar Agrawal met with Ambassador Song on Tuesday and discussed the issues of investment and expansion of business relations.

CNI President Agrawal said that China is an important partner for development, adding that there is a need for cooperation in the infrastructure sector where Nepal lags behind. He asked the Chinese envoy to give high priority to Chinese investment in Nepal and cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, technology transfer, skills, and tourism. He also requested assistance in taking Nepalis goods to the Chinese market through e-commerce.

Agarwal also informed Ambassador Song that the cooperation between the CNI and the China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) will be visible in Nepal. On that occasion, Chinese Ambassador Chen said that Nepal is not a small country even though it looks small because it is between China and India. He emphasized the need for a long-term development strategy, saying that Nepal can develop through its own energy and resources. He suggested that Nepal should increase the use of electricity by giving priority to the energy sector. He also said that it will help in import substitution. He also said that the Confederation is working for industrial development in Nepal.

The Chinese envoy expressed his commitment to support Nepal's industrial development. On that occasion, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's upcoming China visit was also discussed.
