KATHMANDU, June 14: A meeting of Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) on Monday warned that its members might sever ties with Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in the case of undignified treatment from FNCCI.

The meeting has also decided to hold FNCCI responsible for the possible consequences that might arise. [break]

Issuing a statement on Monday, CNI expressed its serious concerns over the FNCCI move to seek clarification from former FNCCI president Binod Kumar Chaudhary.

The 44the annual general meeting of FNCCI held recently had mandated its Disciplinary Committee headed Rabi Bhakta Shrestha to seek clarification with Chaudhary over his statement over the authority of issuing Certificate of Origin (CoO).

CNI termed the move as a character assassination bid and added that FNCCI was politicizing the issue. It has urged FNCCI to search amicable solution to issues surrounding CoO. Stating that CNI´s stand on its authority for issuing CoO is natural, it urged the FNCCI to accept the existence of other organization.

The meeting has concluded that the ´mudslinging´ between business associations was creating a rift among business people and that it could prove detrimental to FNCCI in the coming days.

Participants of the meeting also had serious discussion over the situation in which CNI members may quit FNCCI.

The Ministry of Commerce and Supplies had recently granted authority to issue CoO - an exclusive privilege being enjoyed by FNCCI -- to CNI.
