KATHMANDU, July 5: The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has started implementation of ‘Make in Nepal-Swadeshi,’ an initiative to promote domestic products.

According to the CNI, it has launched a dedicated web portal providing access to interested domestic producers/manufacturers in the campaign. The network is targeted to facilitate use of the locally produced goods belonging to 12 different areas. These include agribusiness, handicraft, building materials, consumer goods, other manufacturing goods, clothing and garments, infrastructure projects, travel and hospitality, financial and insurance services, information technology, energy and services.

CNI President Satish Kumar More said the initiative will help to promote local goods in both domestic and foreign markets and help entrepreneurs in the production process. He said that the web portal is expected to facilitate interested producers to receive membership of the campaign via online.

The campaign has targeted to facilitate opening of 1,000 new production units every year, increase share of industries in the country’s gross domestic product to 22 percent, create new employment opportunities to 1,000 people in the industries and generate export earnings totalling US $ 4.60 billion by 2025.
