CMR Journalism Academy launched to enhance professional skills of Nepali journalists

KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Center for Media Research (CMR)-Nepal has launched CMR Journalism Academy to help enhance professional skills of journalists in Nepal. The Journalism Academy has been launched in Kathmandu in partnership with Interlink Academy, a media training institute based in Germany.

Addressing a function organized to inaugurate the academy in the capital on Friday, Managing Director of Journalism Academy Ujjwal Acharya highlighted the needs to enhance professional skills of Nepali journalists in the face of digital journalism. He said that the academy will organize training on various issues including mobile journalism, podcast, digital security, fact check, media literacy, data-driven journalism and digital media production to help enhance professional skills of journalists.

Addressing the function, Secretary of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) Pawan Acharya said the umbrella organization of journalists across the country is ready to work in partnership with the academy for the professional enhancement of journalists. He also extended best wishes for the success of the academy.

Inaugurating the academy, German Ambassador to Nepal Thomas Prinz highlighted the importance of independent journalism for the promotion of democracy. While pointing out the need to fight against disinformation and misinformation to safeguard democracy in the digital age, he also suggested CMR Journalism Academy to work to that end as well.

Managing Director of Interlink Academy, Werner Eggert, said that they had worked in partnership with CMR-Nepal on various occasions including on mobile data-driven journalism. While expressing confidence that the academy would be able to contribute to the promotion of Nepali journalism, Eggert said that they had forged partnership with CMR-Nepal to share international knowledge, expertise and experience in Nepal.

Also addressing the function, CMR-Nepal Chairperson Trishna Acharya said that CMR-Nepal seeks to make Nepali journalists competent both practically and theoretically by running the journalism academy. The CMR-Nepal has been conducting research on various aspects of media for the past one decade.
