BAGLUNG, Jan 16: Chief Minister of the Gandaki Provincial government Surendra Pandey has said that the final preparations are being made to legalize marijuana and domestic liquor.

Inaugurating the third Jaimini festival held at Kushmisera of Jaimini Municipality of the district on Monday, Chief Minister Pandey said that a bill will be passed to legalize marijuana and domestic liquor in this winter session.

“Nowadays, monkeys are causing a lot of trouble in farming, it has been seen that cannabis cultivation is not destroyed by the monkeys and it can be used as a medicine,” said CM Pandey, “There is also concern that it will be misused. We are preparing to make marijuana legal by formulating necessary laws to use it only as a raw material in medicine and industry. This work will be done in this winter session.”

Chief Minister Pandey said that the law for branding and legalizing domestic alcohol is in its final stage. “Especially in areas where there is a majority of ethnic communities, there is a situation where domestic liquor is prepared and consumed secretly. In the village, it is also a source of income for women,” he said, “We are preparing to finalize this issue from this session of the provincial assembly and move forward. We believe that addressing this issue will make the economic sector of our province sustainable.”

He mentioned that he was not in favor of obstructing the livelihood of women in the village by halting the production of domestic liquor. CM Pandey also said that the legal framework is going to be strengthened to prevent abuse after marijuana and domestic liquor are legalized.

CM Pandey expressed his concern that the recent village developments have made it easier for people to migrate. “We are focused on the development of the village, the local government is concerned about it and now the village has been developed,” he said, “But the road leading to the village is now only used for people from the village to go to the city and migrate abroad. This is a matter of concern.”

The chief minister also mentioned that the provincial government will pay attention to the work of establishing employment in the villages by operating local production industries. “We are concerned about how we can create an environment of employment by establishing local production and agricultural industries in the villages, if this cannot be done, there is no way to stop the migration of the villages,” said CM Pandey.
