The tick-tocking timepiece is both a functional and decorative accessory. Be it on your walls, shelves or tables, a fine looking clock can be proudly displayed as a piece of art and beauty.[break]
Though the digital era might have come along in the clock domain, introducing some chic modern designs, the classic beauty of analog clocks still allures most people. Found in a variety of materials and designs, some analog clocks can even become the centerpiece of your room.
When talking about clocks as centerpieces, it’s the grandfather clocks that top the list. Standing almost six to eight feet tall, these timekeepers are by far the most impressive style of clocks found throughout history. With their intense presence, they are often coveted as a main display in many homes.
Republica spotted some really unique and beautiful grandfather clocks at The Home Studio exhibition which just concluded on May 30 at City Centre, Kamal Pokhari. One of the grandfather clocks on display made of wood gilded with soft gold and bronze metallic texture was a real piece of beauty.
One of the salient features of the clock, however, is that it has an inbuilt fountain. When plugged in, the water flows through its tower or waist, and its soothing sound creates a calm and relaxing ambiance. Priced at Rs 38,000, with a dim colorful light coming out of its base, the lavishly carved clock exuberated with beauty in all ways.

Another eye catcher was the harp-inspired clock, painted beautifully white to resemble a ceramic sculpture. This one with carvings painted in glossy silver was priced at Rs 28,000.
Grandfather clocks aside, mantle clocks, or even the simple wall clocks, can make a statement. All you have to do is be a bit choosier and look out for more innovative and unique designs. For instance, the wall clock with the hardcover book design is something extraordinary and memorable.
The lavish grandfather clocks and mantle clocks will be best suited for your living rooms. But for kitchens, you’ll definitely want to tone down. Wooden or metal wall clocks in brighter colors or glossy shades are ideal for kitchen space. Of course, you can add some fun with wild and bold colored plastic clocks that go with your decor.
For bedrooms, go for more subtle designs of clocks. Even your alarm clocks can be decorative. If you are amongst those people who usually hit their alarm clocks quite a couple of times before getting up, choose a strong one – most preferably made of plastic.
Plastic clocks, however, don’t have to be boring. You can find some really elegant plastic clocks even in your nearest gift stores.
When deciding on decorative clocks for a child’s room, the options are many. That makes your job a bit easier and harder and the same time. However, the best way out is to know the taste of your child – paying clear attention to his/her color preferences and hobbies. One of the really cute clocks we spotted at the exhibition was one with the cars moving around the clock rims along with its hands. Playful clocks like these will definitely make it more fun for your children to tell and even learn to tell time.
So, get a bit more decorative and let your time-telling machines not just show time but show off some good tastes and creative humor as well.
