Minister Sripali leads stadium cleaning campaign
KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The parapet of the only international stadium - Dasharath Stadium and adjoining area of the premises was cleaned on Friday under the leadership of Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Sripali.

Cadres of the ANFSU (revolutionary), National Sports Council (NSC) employees, sports officials and players joined hands in the initiative taken by Minister Sripali.

Dasharath Stadium had been severely damaged due to last year's earthquake and no sports activity has been conducted at it since then. The stadium had been red card by the Department of Building and Urban Development indicating that the structure was vulnerable.

Sports authorities including NSC and Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) have been under severe criticism for neglecting the stadium. Not only grasses had grown at the open parapet, but even bushes and trees have grown up.

Though the cleaning campaign was carried out at the stadium, it is yet to be decided if the stadium needs to be demolished completely or renovation would be sufficient. NSC has appointed a construction company for carrying out a detailed study on the issue. The study is expected to complete in a couple of months.

Nepal Golf Association General Secretary Tashi Ghale, who is also one of the presidential candidates of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), had brought grass cutter used in golf courses for trimming grass at the stadium. “The cleaning was undertaken as per the wishes of sports lover,” Ghale said who also participated in cleaning campaign.

“The reconstruction efforts have been slow so far. We have assigned a technical team to study the stadium's structure and look forward to start acting as soon as its report comes in,” he said. Ghale is also the coordinator of the sub-committee for infrastructure development for he upcoming South Asian Games to be held in Nepal in 2018.
