KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Labor and Transport Management Minister Sarita Giri has criticized Chief Justice Khilraj Regmi for his remark that the Supreme Court verdict on the extension of the Constituent Assembly´s term would not be reviewed.

Speaking at a Reporters´ Club program in the capital on Monday, Giri said, "The chief justice´s remark that the (SC) verdict will not be reviewed is unconstitutional," and adding that it is the Nepali people, who should decide whether or not to extend the (CA) term. [break]

"It is inappropriate for chief justice to make such a statement," Minister Giri said, adding that it is not necessary to bother to go in for review of the verdict. "Not that the verdict should be reviewed. But the parliament should exercise special powers to amend the constitution," she said.

Giri also hit back at CJ Regmi´s remark saying the SC´s task is to interpret constitution, but not to amend it. She further said the court should issue specific verdicts without getting influenced by external environment.

"Personal interpretations only pose question to the court´s trustworthiness," Giri added.
