GORKHA, August 23: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started an investigation into the construction of a bridge where there is no road. The central office of the CIAA has started an investigation into the concrete bridge constructed over the Daraudi River in Gorkha.

According to CIAA sources, during the investigation, the commission has taken documents from the infrastructure office in Gorkha. Last week, the authority's team came to Gorkha for the investigation. Even before that, the team reached the field and returned after examining.

The constitutional anti-corruption watchdog has also asked the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of the province to provide necessary documents. The construction of a bridge through the Infrastructure Development Office in Jarebar to connect Gorkha Municipality-3 and Siranchok Rural Municipality-5 has come under investigation.

Ramsharan Basnet, Minister for Physical Infrastructure MDevelopment of Gandaki Province, was criticized after he built a bridge at a cost of Rs 53.9 million in a place where there is no road near his farm. Minister Basnet has been accused of misusing his authority and power while leaving the place where the bridge was essential elsewhere and planned a concrete bridge near his house and farm.

After the matter was published in the media, the CIAA started an investigation. "Since this is a serious matter, it should be looked into by the central office of the commission," said a CIAA official. During the investigation, the employees of the infrastructure office in Gorkha and the physical infrastructure development ministry of Gandaki province have also been called for statements.
