After she was dragged into controversy for taking oath as commissioner of the CIAA without resigning from her professor position at Tribhuvan University, the CIAA on Wednesday decided to relieve her of her responsibilities.
A meeting of all the commissioners of the CIAA decided to take the decision as a case stating that she was enjoying dual benefits as commissioner and professor is sub judice.
Gurung was overseeing cases of irregularities and corruption related to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Commerce and Supply, Ministry of Urban Development, and Ministry of Irrigation. Likewise, she was also given responsibility to administer cases of corruption in Central and Far-western Development Regions.
However, the CIAA has yet to decide if she will be suspended from the post. "For now, she will be without any responsibility," said a commissioner, who preferred to remain unnamed.
