CIAA moves SC against Special Court's verdict on Tax Settlement Commission members

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has moved the Supreme Court against the Special Court's verdict in relation to three members of the then Tax Settlement Commission.

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has moved the Supreme Court against the Special Court's verdict in relation to three members of the then Tax Settlement Commission.


The CIAA has filed an appeal at the SC against the then Tax Settlement Commission office-bearers including LD (Lumba Dhowj) Mahat, Umesh Prasad Dhakal and Chudamani Sharma stating that the penalty determined by the Special Court against the three was insufficient for their wrongdoings.

Earlier, the CIAA had lodged a case at the Special Court claiming Rs 11.2 billion in fine against the three but the Special Court issued a verdict announcing Rs 4.86 billion in fine to the three.


The Special Court had sentenced Mahat to nine years and one month in jail and Umesh Prasad Dhakal and Chudamani Sharma Dhakal to nine years in jail. 


The CIAA has shared its reservation on 10 different points of the Special Court verdict.
