CIAA immigration staffers, with bribery

KATHMANDU, Sept 16:The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed cases at the Special Court against four civil servants for taking bribes from people leaving for foreign employment and for involvement in faking documents to send them abroad through illegal channels.



The anti-corruption body has filed cases against Immigration Officer Debarsi Sapkota of the Immigration Department at Kalikasthan, Section Officer Surya Prasad Dahal, junior officials Pradeep Prasad Lamichhane and Bishwaraj Kharel and office assistant Jay Narayan Napit for taking bribes from two individuals, in collusion with two manpower agencies and the foreign employment department.[break]



According to a statement issued by CIAA Spokesman Shridhar Sapkota, the officials faked documents for Indian nationals Upendra (Dharmendra) Sahani and Birendra (Nand Kumar) Mandal to show that they were Nepali citizens. The officials received Rs 30,000 from the two Indians.



The CIAA also arrested directors of the foreign employment agency Energy Overseas Pvt Ltd, Meghraj Khanal, Jivan Thapa and Yugal Kishor Jha, and director of Ocean Network Pvt Ltd Shribakas Khatri on the charge of faking documents. The CIAA brought them also before the special court.



Similarly, the anti-graft commission filed a case against Surveyor Dojendraraj Kafle of the Survey Office at Bhaktapur for taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 while illegally transferring a land ownership certificate.
