KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The Federation of National Christian today took out a motorcycle rally in the central capital city demanding a public holiday on Christmas Day- December 25.
The rally that started from Bijuli bazaar went through Maitighar, Tripureshwor, Ratnapark, Jamal, Durbarmarga, Kamalpokhari and Putalisadak before ending at Bhrikuti Mandap. Approximately 400 people from different walks of life participated in the rally.
Christmas celebrated in Nepal
Inaugurating the gathering, human right activist Kapil Shrestha stressed the need for respecting and maintaining coexistence of all religions and languages. The government should value the festival by declaring a public holiday on Christmas Day, said the Federation's President CB Gahatraj.
There are around 2.5 million people following Christian religion and approximately 12,000 churches in the country, it has been estimated. RSS
