Christian body seeks permanent graveyard for dead

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The National Christian Federation Nepal submitted a four-point memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai demanding the arrangement for proper graveyard space to perform funeral rites of Christian community people.



A delegation of the Federation called on the Prime Minister at his office and demanded arrangement for permanent graveyard to perform last rites of Christian community by implementing the agreement reached between the government and Christian community on May 1, 2011. [break]



According to the previous accord, it was agreed to form an all-side high-level committee comprising the representatives from various political parties, Home Ministry, Forest Ministry, Land Reform Ministry and Culture Ministry and three members from the Christian community.



Among other demands put forward by the Christian community are scrapping of the Graveyard Management Recommendation Committee formed against the spirit of the agreement and guarantee of peace and security of all the religious communities by the state.



On the occasion, the Prime Minister has expressed commitment to implement the provisions of agreement signed between the government and Christian community in the past, said General Secretary of the Federation, CB Gahatraj.
