Nepali authorities and the Chinese traders claiming the amount held two separate meetings in Tatopani and in Kuti of Tibet on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
The Chinese side included officials from Chinese Foreign Department, Immigration Office and security agencies while Assistant Chief District Officer Govinda Sapkota led the Nepali side in talks.
“If you do not return the amount, we will take it away from the Nepali traders,” Bijaya Paudel, chief of Tatopani Immigration Office, quoted the Chinese traders as saying.
Sapkota told Republica that the police confiscated the dollars as the carrier had no legal approval to possess them. Meanwhile, the Chinese traders are said to have claimed that they had long been transacting in dollars.
