Foreign secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambika Devi Luitel, saw off the 19-member Chinese delegation at the Tribhuvan International Airport late this afternoon. [break]
Earlier today, State Councilor Yang paid a courtesy call on Vice President Permananda Jha at the latter’s office. On the occasion, they discussed a range of bilateral issues and Nepal´s political process to the elections.
“While appreciating the long standing ´One China Policy´ of Nepal, visiting State Councilor Jeichi expressed his view that China is also firm on its policy of giving importance to sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Nepal and reiterated that China´s policy of non-interference in internal affairs of Nepal,” reads a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
According to the statement, during the meeting, Yang supported the government´s decision to hold CA elections on November 19. During the meeting, Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire, the secretary of the Office of the Vice President and officials of the foreign ministry and other high ranking officials of the Nepal government were also present.
The Chinese delegation included vice-ministers looking after foreign affairs, public security, commerce and office of foreign affairs of the Communist Party of China and senior officials of the Chinese foreign ministry, among others.
Later in the afternoon, Yang also inaugurated Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project amidst a function held at Soaltee Hotel.
The delegation arrived in Kathmandu on Monday and held bilateral meetings with top government officials, cabinet ministers, leaders of the various political parties, including Vice President Paramanda Jha and Chairman of the Election Council Khil Raj Regmi. Two agreements were signed on Tuesday between the two countries.
Likewise, the government of China has agreed to provide a grant assistance of approximately Rs 3 billion 6 million [200 million RMB] to Nepal for the construction of the National Armed Police Force Academy.
Similarly, China has agreed to provide logistics materials of office supplies worth Rs. 154.1 million for the forthcoming Constituent Assembly elections.
The agreements were signed by Finance Secretary Shantaraj Subedi and and Jiang Zengwei, vice minister of the Chinese commerce ministry.
The Nepal government has expressed its sincere appreciation to the Chinese government for the assistance and also for its continued support in the socio-economic development of Nepal.
