Chinese premier press for consensus in Nepal

SHANGHAI, Nov 01: Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao has urged political parties in Nepal to reach consensus for peace and stability in the country. He made the statement during his meeting with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav in Shanghai on Sunday.



"China is confident about political parties achieving peace and stability through mutual consultations and consensus as soon as possible," Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sarat Singh Bhandari quoted Jiabao as saying in his 20-mintute meeting with President Yadav at the Shanghai State Guest House. According to Bhandari, who was present during the meeting, Wn Jiabao also reiterated China´s policy of "non-interference on internal affairs of others" to President Yadav, who is currently on a week-long goodwill visit of the northern neighbor to attend the concluding ceremony of the Shanghai expo. The President attended the ceremony Saturday evening.



The Chinese prime minister also announced to give approximately Rs 750 million to Nepal in addition to regular Chinese aid.



Nepalis Ambassador to Beijing Tanka Karki, who was also present on the occasion, said the Chinese PM pledged to continue its support in development of infrastructures and asked Nepal to submit project proposals for the same before Beijing.



Yadav also reaffirmed Nepal´s faith in "one-China policy" during the meeting while committing not to allow Nepali soil to be used against China´s territorial integrity. He also urged the Chinese leaders to help complete the ongoing peace process and infrastructural development in Nepal.



Jiabao also extended an invitation to the President to visit China in a suitable time.



President and his entourage are due to return home Monday night.
