KATHMANDU, June 17: A Chinese national has been arrested in Kapan, Kathmandu, with 6 kg of gold, allegedly involved in smuggling the precious metal through Tribhuvan International Airport.
Delay in culvert construction leads to inundation in Kapan
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police apprehended the individual in Kapan. The identity of the arrested citizen has not been disclosed. The CIB stated that the identity is being kept confidential as the gold is yet to be tested, and further investigations are ongoing.
The arrest was made during the second phase of the CIB's investigation into a larger gold smuggling operation. Earlier on July 18, 2023, the Department of Revenue Investigation confiscated 60 kg and 700 grams of gold concealed in brake shoes that had passed through the airport.
