Chinese envoy hands over 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine donated by Chinese govt to PM Oli

KATHMANDU, March 29: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi on Monday handed over 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine donated by the Chinese government to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

KATHMANDU, March 29: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi on Monday handed over 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine donated by the Chinese government to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.


Amid a special function held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, the Chinese envoy handed over the vaccine consignment to PM Oli.  


On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli said that the vaccine consignment handover from the Chinese side to the Nepali side has further deepened the friendly relationship between Nepal and China.

"China has made a huge contribution to protect the entire humanity by developing COVID-19 vaccines on its own. The Government of Nepal is also doing its best to protect the people's lives with its motto "life first"," Oli said.



Addressing the event, Chinese Ambassador Hou said that the handover of the vaccines is not only an implementation of the solemn commitment of President Xi Jinping to make Chinese COVID vaccine as a global public good, but also a vivid manifestation of the two countries’ joint construction of a community of shared destiny and the “healthy silk road”.


"The Chinese side is pleased to note that under the leadership of Prime Minister Oli, the Nepali government has taken active measures to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and launched National Deployment and Vaccination Plan, which fully demonstrates the care and attention of the Nepali government for its people’s lives and health," she said.


Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China and Nepal have been always supporting and helping each other, which composed another new chapter of friendship between our two peoples sharing weal and woe in trying times, the ambassador said.


"We hope that the vaccine provided by China will help Nepal to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic at an early date and contribute to the early resumption of normal economic and social life in Nepal," she added.


COVID-19 vaccines donated to Nepal by the Chinese government arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu earlier today.
