KATHMANDU, August 31: A 17-member Chinese delegation led by politburo and central committee member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhang Gaoli held talks with Chairman of the Unified CPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal here on Monday.

Maoist sources said that the delegation expressed concern over delay in the conclusion of the peace process and constitution-writing in Nepal. Gaoli, however, is also said to have expressed the Chinese government´s "commitment" to helping the peace process.

The delegation also met CPN-UML senior leader KP Sharma Oli.

Significantly, the delegation met Dahal and Oli even before holding meetings with the prime minister and other cabinet ministers. Last year, China had proposed a new ´strategic treaty´ to the then Maoist-led government headed by Dahal.

The delegation is scheduled to meet the president, the prime minister, the foreign minister, the chairman of CPN-UML and leaders of other major political parties, the Chinese embassy said.
