China pledges support in NA's capacity enhancement

KATHMANDU, Oct 16: China has pledged to support the Nepal Army in enhancing its capacity in disaster management efforts. 


Talking to media persons at Tribhuvan International Airport ( TIA) upon arrival after taking part in the seventh Xiangshan Forum held in Beijing, Defense Minister Balkrishna Khand said during his meeting with the Chinese counterpart, the later praised Nepal Army for its professional skills, honesty and valiant it demonstrated in the United Nations peacekeeping missions and said the Chinese Army could learn from the 'outstanding' talent inherited by the NA personnel.

This year's theme of the seventh Xiangshan Forum that was held from October 10 to 12 was to "Build a New Type of International Relations through Security, Dialogue and Cooperation." 


The Conference held in-depth discussions on how to promote security and assistance in course of expanding international relations. Nepal put its views on problems caused by terrorism in the security arrangements and possible ways to deal with them, as stated by the Defense Minister. 


During the meeting between defense ministers of both countries, the Chinese side said China and Chinese people have supported Nepal's new constitution, wishing for peace, prosperity and progress in the country. 


The two ministers stressed the need of continuing the exchange of bilateral high-level visits from the government level. The meeting also focused on the discussions about the various dimensions of relations between NA and Chinese Army, according to Minister Khand. 


He said he realised that China has good knowledge that peace and progress in neighbouring countries was essential to attain economic progress by any country. 

A total of 400 representatives from 64 countries took part in the Forum. Nepal Army Chief Rajendra Chhetri and Defense Secretary Shreedhar Sapkota were at TIA to receive the Minister. RSS
