China PLA chief in town

KATHMANDU, March 23: Chief of China´s People´s Liberation Army (PLA) Gen Chen Bingde arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday for a three-day official visit.



“We are paying this visit for the purpose of further enhancing mutual understanding, promoting friendship, strengthening cooperation and propelling the China-Nepal Comprehensive Partnership of Cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship to move ahead constantly,” said Gen Bingde in a statement upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. He further said that the Chinese government and the PLA attach great importance to developing friendly relations of cooperation between our two countries and their armed forces.



The visiting Chief of the General Staff of the PLA held bilateral talks with his Nepali counterpart Chhatraman Singh Gurung on Wednesday. Gurung and Bingde signed separate letters on extending help to the Nepal Army.



As per the agreement, the Chinese government will provide medial equipments worth 100 million RMB Yuan and engineering equipments worth 30 million RMB Yuan to the Nepal Army, according to a statement issued by the Nepal Army.



Gen Bindgde will meet President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, Defense Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, and senior Defense Ministry officials on Thursday.
