China, Japan offer support for CA polls

KATHMANDU, March 24: Ambassadors of Japan and China have assured of all necessary support to the interim election government to hold a fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.



Japanese ambassador to Nepal, Kunio Takahashi and Chinese envoy to Nepal, Wu Chuntai, assured of electoral support in separate meetings with Chairman of Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi at the latter´s office in Singh Durbar on Sunday.[break]



According to Regmi´s press advisor RP Pandey, Japanese envoy congratulated Regmi on being nominated as the executive head of the country and expressed confidence that he would hold a free, fair and timely election.



“Japan is ready to extend any kinds of electoral support to the government,” Pandey quoted the envoy as telling Regmi.



On the occasion, the envoy said that Japan is currently working toward completing the 140 megawatts Tanahun Hydropower Project by 2020 and repairing radar installed earlier under support from Japan government at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, according to Pandey.



Likewise, newly-appointed Chinese envoy to Nepal Wu had also congratulated Regmi. While expressing China´s readiness to extend all necessary support to Nepal for CA polls, Ambassador Wu also expressed confidence that there would be a free and fair election under the leadership of Regmi.



Chairman Regmi thanked the envoys for their continued support and cooperation and expressed hope that the relations of Nepal with Japan and China will reach a new height during his tenure. “I will first consult the Election Commission and make a request for support,” Pandey quoted Chairman Regmi as telling the envoys.
