Chinese ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai met with former prime minister and CPN-UML Chairman Khanal on Tuesday morning at his Dallu-based residence and conveyed China´s optimism about Nepal´s political stability with the announcement of the election date.
“Expressing satisfaction of Chinese government on the announcement of new election date, Chinese ambassador said China welcomes the decision. He said he is optimistic that the decision will help bring stability in Nepal,” reads a statement issued by Milan Tuladhar, member at the UML’s international department.
During the meeting, Wu congratulated Khanal on the four major parties being able to reach consensus for fresh elections to CA. In reply, Khanal thanked the Chinese government for its support for electoral process and expressed his hope for China´s continued assistance in the future.
“Khanal said with the announcement of the date of election, the country has advanced to a new, positive phase,” reads the statement. Khanal informed the ambassador that he was in touch with the agitating parties particularly Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist.
“It is also in the best interest of CPN-Maoists and others agitating to participate in this election. By boycotting the election, they cannot deliver their message to the people,” the statement said.
UML Chairman Khanal informed the ambassador that his party was working hard to bring harmony among various ethnic groups of the country while going for a new federal system.
